My Downtime

Hello and welcome back, first of all as late as it is, I hope everyone had a brilliant Christmas or holiday period. I just wanted to do a quick post regarding the past few months as a way of explaining what I got up to and that things will continue. As you know over the holiday season I pretty much stopped posting. And I apologise for that. The main reason for this is that my work dominated my time, not in a bad way. I chose to take on as many extra shifts and do as much overtime as I could and threw myself at my job. With my family back in Australia I could spend as much time as I wanted at work taking advantage of the shifts and overtime that was on offer.

During the few hours of downtime, I had each day, I spent it relaxing with friends, reading a book or watching youtube. Mostly though I did a lot of reading, the majority of what I read and watched was based on being self-sufficient or about people starting or working on their homesteads. Trying to gain new ideas on ways to go about things.

Although mostly unrelated to the homesteading topic. One book I read, in particular, introduced me to a new idea that I absolutely love and it matches brilliantly with my goals and how I want to achieve them. That idea is the Solarpunk movement, since reading that book I have been reading and watching as much as I can to get a better understanding of it. Put very very simply the Solarpunk movement is a more optimistic view of the future. One where communities and individuals focus more on renewable environmentally friendly practices and living instead of the destructive consumerist society we have today.

My brief description does not do the movement justice. But if you’re like me and interested in sustainability, keen on some new ideas and tired of the destructive world we live in, I highly recommend you give it a look and see for yourself. You may like it. I will more than likely post about it in greater detail in the future. During my time I also read a few books on frugal living, so in an upcoming post I will share what I have learned and hopefully, some of it might be useful in reducing household costs. And of course, I will try them myself and report back so we can see if they are worth doing or if they just create extra work.

So even though I didn’t post for a while, and I am sorry about that. I am still determined to work towards achieving my goal and hopefully inspiring someone else to have a crack at theirs. I admit with the way the world currently is with inflation and the high costs of living, it will be challenging. But I also believe that is why we should do it.

Until next time, have a good one and catch you later.
