Hello, my name is Duncan and welcome to the first post of the Vandemonian Homesteader.
Like many people today I have realised that the modern rat race isn’t for me. The 9 to 5, 5 days a week existence just isn’t where I saw life going. However, I have been fortunate enough to experience a small taste of a life outside of what many people would consider the norm.
It was slow, filled with hard work, discomfort, unique challenges, discomfort but most importantly it was rewarding. The relationships I developed with the land, animals, neighbours as well as my, family and partner were terrific. Life had a purpose, and more importantly, my hard work benefited myself and those I shared it with. This is the life I want to return to, for both my partner and I.
Although I don’t have land yet to work on, I thought I could create this blog to show how I make this dream a reality, hopefully inspiring others to break away from the monotonous cycle they feel trapped in and set out on their own path.
I plan to show how I manage my finances, sharing frugal ideas and then trying them, sharing my notes and thoughts so others can see the results. While working towards my goal of getting land somewhere, I also plan to share and practice hobbies that can help once the main goal is achieved.
Skills that will be useful not only in saving money but that will be needed when Homesteading. Things like cooking from scratch, food preservation, clothing repair, and general maintenance just to name a few. Learning, practising and then sharing these skills will not only help others by sharing ideas they may not have considered, but it helps to keep me focused on my goal and in a way helps to keep me on track.
So with that out of the way, stay tuned and cheers for dropping in, have a good one!
